The major characteristics of a cast bronze bell are its robustness and the quality of the sound it produces. While most of the bells manufacturers concentrate on the robustness of the metal and neglect the quality of the sound it produces, Paccard combines pure red copper with block tin to produce both solid and finely tuned bronze bells. Tuning a bronze bell is a time-consuming process that requires sophisticated equipment and above all a high proficiency and experience. After being tuned, the bronze bell is able to produce 5 different notes, called partials, something which makes it quite a particular instrument, with regard to other standard instruments.
