 The Liberty Bell

"The most copied bell around the World"

In 1950, the government of the United States of America entrusted the Paccard Foundry with the task of reviving the famous "Liberty Bell" which rung the Proclamation of Independence on the 4th July 1776 in Philadelphia.

Ordered by William Penn (Pensylvania), it was recasted by American craftmen in 1753.

MBut in 1855, at the time of Chief Justice Marshall's funeral, suddenly its ring faded away.

The care that was untertaken only widened the crack that had appeared on its side. The original bell is exposed in the "Bicentenial memorial" in Philadelphia.

More than 300 replicas have been casted to this day, of which, one for every state of the USA.

The inscriptions are the following :

"proclaim liberty throughout all the land"

"unto all the inhabitants thereof"

(Levitique, chapter 25, verse X)

and the name of the two craftmen who originally casted the bell.

L'anecdote du fondeur

LThe Liberty Bell is very dear to American's heart. That's why, for authenticity's sake, the original crack was reproduced on the replicas, thank to the lost wax process. Fortunately, these cracks are only illusion...

Any takers ? This wonderfull bell is now available (on a scale of 1/2 and 1/6) on the PACCARD online store CAMPANUNA :
